Social Policy
The competence team focuses on education and support of disadvantaged people, educational staff and other professional groups, mainly in the area of education and social. What is very important is the cooperation with elementary and secondary schools, children’s homes and organizations working in the social sphere. One of the key issues is targeting both individual and group support of pupils with specific educational needs to increase equal opportunities. In the area of further education the team is involved in programs creation aimed at CAN (Child Abuse and Neglect) syndrome. These programs are based on specific needs of the learning professional group.

Description: |
The project is devoted to the development of democratic competences in schools through balancing feminine and masculine principles. It focuses on equality in the sense of respect for the fact that we are all different and can achieve the same thing in different ways, we just need to have equal opportunities to do so. Therefore, the activities in the project promote development of principles and values that tend to be neglected in education (emotions, relationships, cooperation, process focus, etc.), thus creating the balance needed for the development of all individuals. |

Project duration: |

Description: |
The number of pupils with SEN in regular classes has been increasing recently and so has been the necessity of developing teachers’ abilities and skills concerning interaction with these pupils. Teachers are often not sure how to deal with pupils with SEN in their classes, yet they might play a crucial role in their integration. This project focuses on development of competences of teachers and other workers in the educational system as well as on growth of pupils because a positive climate in class in the long term can only be achieved through reciprocal cooperation between teachers and pupils. The project will run for two years in five regions in the Czech Republic: Prague, Central Bohemian Region, Ústí Region, Pardubice Region and South Bohemian Region. In each of the regions, two different types of seminars will take place. 1. Main competence development – these seminars include the following topics: new perspective at problem behaviour, respectful communication, prevention and stabilization of problem behaviour and class work. They are divided into two two-day seminars 16 hours each (these seminars are external with accommodation arranged) and one one-day, 8-hour seminar. These seminars will include lectures under the auspices of experienced lectors as well as practising new skills and they require involvement of max. 15 teachers in the duration of min. 30 hours. 2. Specialized competence development – these seminars focus on more specific topics (e.g., teacher’s psychohygiene, bullying and cyber bullying, pupils with a different mother tongue, work with abused children) and they will run for 6 days, 6 hours a day. Participation in these seminars is voluntary and again, there will be max. 15 participants per group. |

Description: |
Democracy cannot work on its own. Every citizen should participate actively in the cultivation of democracy. And what is a more suitable place for starting the development of democratic competencies and of democratic culture than a school? The purpose of this project we have prepared is systemic support to the development of a democratic culture at five schools in Prague. In the project, we will provide education for teachers as well as students and we will also have discussions with the school management. The aim of this project is to create a respectful environment for all in schools and thus to support equal access to education. Among other things, it contributes to reducing the number of children who have to leave the educational system early, especially children with SEN or with a different mother tongue. |

Water Agent V 003: Environmental education of pupils in the field of water management |
Submitter: |
Visegrad Fund |
Investigator: |
IREAS, Institute for Structural Policy |
Project duration: |
06/2018–07/2019 |
Description: |
How to raise awareness of pupils about the water management? Thanks to the Visegrad fund we will do it through a handbook for basic school teachers that will be created by experts from the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. This handbook will support teachers in including environmental topics such as water governance into the common educational system. It will be based on experience pedagogy using motivational methods including games, quizzes, experiments, worksheets and other materials for interactive education. Final version should be available for teachers in the school year 2019/2020 in 3 national languages: Czech, Slovak and Hungarian. It will help them to teach tree basic topics: i) water in the landscape, ii) water consumption in households and schools iii) water in the city. With changes of the climate conditions in the Central Europe there is a need to change behaviour of citizens considering water management and water policy (including changes in water consumption). Unfortunately, society has only low awareness about this topic in general. Therefore implementation of necessary measures faces low support of inhabitants. Although the basic education curriculum includes topics dealing with environmental education, water management is not covered sufficiently in classical subjects, especially in the context of current challenges. This is the reason why project Water Agent V 003 sets its goal to introduce the issue of water governance to the youngest generations and their families and teachers. Project outputs are developed by IREAS (Czech Republic) in cooperation with the GWP CEE (Slovakia) and IMRO (Hungary) |

Pedagogical staff (PS) had an opportunity to deepen their knowledge in various educational areas or methods. But work with CAN syndrome (child abused and neglected syndrome) is not widely promoted. That's why we offered to PS this course which helped them to understand CAN syndrome and different issues connected to it and to clarify their competences in case of occurrence in class. The course was divided into distance learning part (e-learning) and attendance part (two days practice of communication with child and analysis of case studies). Another activity was in the form of supervision meetings for PS, which had supporting and reflecting effect on the work of PS with CAN syndrome. |
